My Father was first licensed in 1939 at the age of 14. I was first licensed in 1965, also at the age of 14, as KNØNKX. Back then the Novice license was only good for one year. I lapsed until 1988 when I made my dad happy by getting licensed again. I got my Novice license KBØDYG. A month later I Tested and passed the Tech Plus and General Class [yes I did the code] with NØLAP being issued. I wanted a 1X3.
I now proudly hold my Fathers call sign, WØCHV, as I could not see anyone else using it, it just wouldn't sound right, I grew up hearing that one all the time. His shack was right under my bedroom. Dick passed away in 2005, and talked of Amateur Radio to the end. I miss him.
